Train ride from Hong Kong to Beijing. (30 hours) |
| Casey's getting ready to board the train at Kowloon Hung Hom station. | ![]() |
| Our cabin. We are in a deluxe soft sleeper. Since there are no classes in communist China, there are also no classes on the train. They generally have hard and soft sleepers. On a train this long they have deluxe soft sleeper also. I wouldn't recommend a lower class. It was $160.00 for the trip. |
| Still in Hong Kong. Somewhere in the New Territories. |
| Rice paddy outside Hong Kong. |
| Havana Club and Cokes for the ride. Can't do that in the states. |
| Bored on the train. |
| We're in mainland China now. |

| The dinning car. $0.80 big shitty chinese beers. Notice no one in the deluxe soft sleeper dinning car. |
| Casey all alone in the dinning car. Those are workers behind us. |
| Casey working on chopsticks. You have to learn to use them or starve. The food on the train was cheap, simple, and very tasty. Top notch! |
| Relaxing after dinner. |
| Here's where we are! |
| Chinese Coke complete with pull tab. |
| This was the speaker in our cabin. They were piping in soothing music to relax to. I'm sure there were subliminal communist propogada in it. There was no volume control and you couldn't turn it off. |

| Poor rural China. |
| Poor rural China. Poorer than anywhere I've seen in Mexico. |

| Poor rural China. Ok, we're getting scared now. If this f*&King train brakes down, we're F@#$ed. |
| Poor rural China. Maybe we should have stayed in Hong Kong! |
Here we're in Zhongzhou (pronounced jong-joe). Zhongzhou is the capital of Henan
province. My travel guide tells me that the Henan province is one of the poorest
provinces in China. I would hope it doesn't get much worse than this. |
| This is how Chinese trains flush. |
| The Yellow River(Huang He). |
| Poor rural China in Henan. |
| Poor rural China in Henan. Look at the pony cart. |

| When we got to Beijing West trains station, it was too insane to take pictures. It was cold, dark, and everyone surrounding the white guys trying to sell them shit. Not a pleasant experience. |
