Shopping in Beijing

Shopping in Beijing was a great experience. But you need to be a good at barganing. I'm not! If you think you got a good deal, you probably got screwed. Start at 10% of the asking price and don't pay more that 25%. As a rough rule of thumb for clothing, pay in RMB what you would pay in dollars (or less). Things here are stupid cheap! Most of the picture below are from the Pearl Market or the Hongqiao Market. It is right across from the Temple of Heaven.

Mike and Pheonix viewing pearls. This is at Sharon's on the fourth floor of the Pearl Market. It is much nicer that the lower three floors. I don't think they let ordinary Chinese folks up here. There were guards at the elevator. There were pictures on the wall of Barbara Bush, Colin Powell, Madelline Albright, Tony Blair all shopping at Sharon's.

Casey, Pheonix, and Mike.
This was the morning market about a block from our hotel.
This is the second floor of the Hongqiao Market. They had mostly clothing. These girl were very agressive. Running after you pulling you back not taking no. We bought a bunch of of North Face stuff here. I got a nice North Face Jacket for 120 RMB ($15). Mike got one cheaper the next day.
This was the day we came back. These two girls said there boss was very angry for how cheap they sold us stuff. This is why they are punching Mike. But they sold us more stuff for cheaper. We bought about $700.00 worth of stuff for about 500 RMB. I felt bad and gave the one on the right my English to Mandarin dictionary. (she's holding it!) She wanted to pay me 40 RMB for it. That's about what I paid for it and an audio CD, so I just gave it to her.
