This is a favela or slum in Rio. One of the large one. The favelas specifically in Rio are VERY DANGEROUS!!! Don't believe me read this.
Favela in Rio. There is a new movie about living in the Favelas in Rio which will be out on DVD in the US in May. It's called City of God. (The name of the Favela the movie is about is Cidade de Deus or City of God)
Here is the trailer, it's good, watch it. I think I was told it was the first Brazilian movie to win an academy award. The picture is not Cidade de Deus, but we drove by it.
This is a famous surfing beach. I forgot the name of it.
