Beijing Taxis

Beijing Taxis are cheap. You can get anywhere in the city center for less than $3.00. There are three classes that we saw. The first class is a 1.20 RMB/km or a "Xialis" . They are fine for two people with no bags. The next class is 1.60 RMB/km. Which is seems to be the most common. They are a bit bigger and cleaner and are fine for two big guys and all our bags. The largest is the 2.00, which we had no need for. Flag fall for all cabs is 10 RMB. The class is on and oval in the rear side window. You can see it in the photos below.

One problem you might find with drivers is they won't start the meter and try to negociate at the end of the trip. MAKE SURE THE DRIVER STARTS THE METER!

The only Enlish driver might know will be airport and San Li Tun. Make sure you have your destination in Chinese characters or a map with Chinese. Most bars, hotels, stores have cards with there address in Chinese characters. Pick one up or ask for one. Even though the street signs in Beijing are in Pinyin (Romanized Chinese) I don't think most drivers aren't proficient in it.
A 1.20 or "Xialis". The class is on the green oval.

Xialis is Chinese for "Shitbox".
A 1.60. The class is in the blue oval.
Out our 1.60 on the way to Beijing Capital Airport.
